Effect of pitching motion on production in a OFWT

Abstract The performance of offshore floating wind turbines (OFWTs) is affected by the movement along 6 Degrees Freedom (DOFs), which caused combined influence and waves. Particularly, interesting pitching motion, can lead to significant changes in aerodynamic net generated power. This paper analyzes motion on power, considering for first time literature OFWT control systems (blade pitch generator controller). An in-house model based Blade Element Momentum (BEM) theory used, sinusoidal movements characterized different values amplitude, frequency offset are imposed. In this way, it possible evaluate these three parameters extracted power at speed. Results identify amplitude most variables variations output, that oscillation average considerably varies conditions.
